macOS Sonoma introduced changes to the way a Mac shortens names for indexing when writing to a FAT32 drive - which is the drive format used by all of our digital consoles.
This will result in the firmware files on the drive not being found by any product which is looking for the shortened file name.
Products affected :
- Qu
- SQ (running firmware V1.5.11 or earlier)
To ensure standard name shortening is used, firmware files for these products should be copied to the drive using Windows, Bootcamp, Parallels, an older Mac operating system or another device like a tablet or smartphone.
If only a newer Mac is available, it is also possible to apply the correct '8.3 format' shortened name to the file manually, as this will not then be shortened automatically by macOS when copying to the drive.
Example renaming:
Original File | Renamed File |
Qu16UpdtV1_97_4574.QUU | Qu16Up~1.QUU |
Qu24UpdtV1_97_4574.QUU | Qu24Up~1.QUU |
Qu32UpdtV1_97_4574.QUU | Qu32Up~1.QUU |
QuPacUpdtV1_97_4574.QUU | QuPacU~1.QUU |
QuSBUpdtV1_97_4574.QUU | QuSBUp~1.QUU |
SQ-5UPG_1_6_0r4812.bin | SQ-5UP~1.bin |
SQ-6UPG_1_6_0r4812.bin | SQ-6UP~1.bin |
SQ-7UPG_1_6_0r4812.bin | SQ-7UP~1.bin |
The firmware update process can then be followed as normal using the manually renamed file.
