Connecting a Stereo insert device.
Run from the Xone:96 master insert ‘send’ sockets with a pair of balanced (TRS) or Unbalanced (TS) cables. (The send is a balanced output, whereas the return is unbalanced).
The send connects to the input of the stereo device, and then out of the device back into the return sockets of the 96 insert.
The gain structure should be properly maintained going into and coming out of the third-party device. The insert send return is a -2dBu out/in. It’s, therefore, best to set any external device to accept a +4dB signal and compensate for any make-up with the FX device's input gain.
It should also be noted; that when ¼” Jack connectors are terminated into the Master insert ’return’ socket, this will break the thru connection to the master bus. If there is no signal to the send or the device is turned off or is not passing audio, there will be no signal present on the master bus and meters.
