The WZ20S standard mono or stereo channel faders can be changed for replacement ALPS K-fader with integral micro-switches at the bottom of the fader travel.
These micro-switches can then be wired in an appropriate fashion (so that the contacts are either normally open or normally closed depending on the required logic) to an optional 25-way D-connector on the rear panel of the mixer. The remote start-stop contacts of external equipment can then be wired to a mating D-connector.
The faders and connector can be ordered individually, or as a complete kit to replace all of the channel faders in the mixer:
part no. Description
002-501 Kit for complete console (includes 4 Mono faders, 8 Stereo faders and D-type connector)
002-498 D-type connector
002-497 Stereo fader (Qty. 1)
002-496 Mono fader (Qty. 1)
Implementation of fader start (as one example of the application of the standard microswitch) is a simple case of linking closures from the microswitch (in the logical order determined by the customer’s individual requirement) to the rear panel with no requirement for screening or special routing.
This would then provide compatibility with external equipment requiring a contact closure to trigger something, such as jingle machines etc.
The fader switches can be wired so they act as normally closed (NC) with the fader down or normally open (NO) with the fader down.
The switches can be used to pass DC to operate a relay. It is not directly compatible with units that require a pulse trigger, so additional circuitry may be required between the WZ20S and the external equipment that requires this.
Another application of the micro-switch on the fader is to activate the Monitor Dim function when the fader is open.
Information on the pertinent solder pads on the Right board is given in the Service Manual.
Additional diodes can be added as required if more than four switches (such as channel PFL etc.) need to perform this function.
The implementation of the micro-switches is going to vary greatly and depend on the requirements of, each customer and needs to be ‘worked out’ between the customer and the service department fitting the option.
If there are sufficient free pins on the D connector, you can keep your options open by taking all the switch terminations to the rear connector panel so that the required pins on the D connector can be selected at a later time subsequent to the installation of the faders.
The fader switches can be wired so they act as normally closed (NC) with the fader down or normally open (NO) with the fader down.
The switches can be used to pass DC to operate a relay.
It is recommended that this option is fitted by an approved Allen & Heath service agent
