Q:
I have recently purchased a Xone:2D controller, and would like to use it as a standalone unit with Traktor 3 using 4 decks;
I have set the mixer setting to internal and mapped faders to the individual channel volumes.
However, I cannot monitor what I'm doing as the monitor output is essentially the same as the master output; if I have a channel with its volume turned off I can't hear it in the headphones - so it's not monitoring.
Is there a way to do this or do I really need an external mixer?
A:
You don't need to use an external mixer with the XONE:2D, it is possible to use it as a stand-alone digital audio interface, but in this case, you will have to enable one of the XONE:2D soundcard channels to use as the software's monitor output.
This can be configured as follows:
Go to: TRAKTOR > FILE > PREFERENCES > AUDIO SETUP > OUTPUT ROUTING
Select the INTERNAL option from the MIXER MODE settings menu.
In INTERNAL mixer mode, there are four configurable Output Routing buses available in Traktor DJ Studio 3:
MONITOR, MASTER, BOOTH and RECORD and using the XONE:2D, it's possible to set each of these buses to a discrete, stereo, soundcard output channel (in Traktor Pro, this has been reduced to 3, with the BOOTH output omitted, so in this case, it should also be possible to route the preview player to a discrete soundcard channel).
Each soundcard output channel can be routed to the XONE:2D's MONITOR (headphone) output, by pressing any of the OUT1-2 / OUT3-4 / OUT5-6 / OUT7-8 switches on the XONE:2D top panel.
To route a signal, from each DECK to the application's Monitor bus output, you also need to assign MIDI controls in;
TRAKTOR > CONTROLLER MANAGER > ASSIGNMENT TABLE to enable the DECK CUE 'button' switching for each of the Traktor DECKS.
For more info on configuration options in Traktor, please refer to the application's User Manual, the Native Instruments Traktor forums, or check out the Traktor Bible site for detailed information and examples of MIDI controller mapping for Traktor 3, Traktor Scratch Pro and Traktor Pro 2.
Alternatively, pre-configured, A&H designed Traktor mappings are also available for download in .tks and .tsi formats, via the Documents links HERE
