Q:
At random, playback will start distorting or start drifting at uncontrollable speeds.
Sometimes I can use Traktor for an hour or two before this happens, sometimes it'll happen shortly after launching the program...
...In some cases, I will have to reboot the entire computer, so I'm sure this is a soundcard issue and not an issue with Traktor Pro...
A:
The symptoms you have described seem as though this problem may be related to the application, or your system, not recognising, or enabling the Xone:4D ASIO driver correctly, rather than a problem with the soundcard itself and there are a few suggestions we can offer to help to resolve your issue, or (if our advice doesn't cure the symptoms you're experiencing) to at least narrow down other possible causes:
On your system, go to START > CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > HARDWARE DEVICE MANAGER > SOUND, VIDEO & GAME CONTROLLERS, check mixer is enumerated correctly by clicking the [+]; the mixer should be listed, twice, as 'XONE:4D WDM Audio 2.x.xx' and 'XONE:4D WDM Midi 2.x.xx'.
The mixer should also appear under Universal Serial Bus controllers as: 'Allen & Heath XONE:4D 2.x.xx'
If the mixer is not listed as described above, check the mixer's connected to the same USB port used when first installing the ASIO drivers onto the system and, if that's the same (and you know the USB cable's OK), let us know - there may be a hardware fault that needs to be checked out.
If everything above checks out OK, there are some Traktor settings that you should check to make sure the application's settings are not the cause of your symptoms:
Go to: PREFERENCES > AUDIO SETUP > AUDIO DEVICE, check that "XONE:4D USB ASIO driver" is selected as the Audio Device and NOT "XONE:4D WDM Audio (10 In, 2 Out)".
If you've been using the NI configuration 'wizard' to select the Xone:4D as your Traktor interface this may also cause unexpected issues and, where you configure the application and map controls yourself, from scratch, there may be some other conflicts that we could only check by examining your custom configuration file.
Try importing the A&H designed .tsi configuration file X4D_T-PRO_ACBD.tsi. Available to download from the Allen&Heath website: https://www.allen-heath.com/media/Xone4D_Overlays_TraktorMaps.zip
To import the A&H .tsi file:
- Extract the .tsi file from the X4D_TP Config.zip and save it to your desktop (or to Traktor's 'settings' folder)
- Run Traktor (do NOT choose any of NI's 'wizard setup' options if prompted); open the PREFERENCES options and click on the Import tab at the bottom left of this GUI.
- Navigate to the system location, or directory, where the extracted .tsi file was stored, select the "X4D_T-PRO_ACBD.tsi" file and click OPEN
- Ensure ALL category options are checked in the 'Select Categories to Import' GUI and click OK.
This will configure Traktor's Audio & MIDI Device, Input and Output Routing and GUI Layout settings for the XONE:4D with all four Deck Modes set to Internal Playback.
It will also configure the MIDI mapping to reflect the assignments shown on the Overlay graphic also included in the .zip and details of how all assignments are enabled is documented in the Overlay Descriptors.pdf, also included.
If the symptoms are resolved, you can then customize the A&H .tsi to suit your individual setup/layout preferences; export elements from the file, that you want to use in your own template, or note the Audio Device settings and transfer these to your previous configuration.
