Q:
How do you get to the clip selection to select a play position in Ableton Live?
This is how the jog wheel on the right and left side of the Xone:3D & 4D (notes CC37 and CC45) are mapped in the pre-configured AH1003 template for Live, but I can't navigate Live to find and select this option for my own custom MIDI mapping.
A:
You'll need to assign Live's "Clip Scrub Control" function to the controller you want to use.
In Live's session view:
- Load an audio file (clip) into any Live AUDIO TRACK.
- Double-click on the clip, so the waveform is displayed in the CLIP VIEW; two dialogue boxes should be visible to the left of the waveform: 'Sample' and 'Clip', at the bottom of the Clip window are two tabs: [<<] & [>>]
- Enable the MIDI MAP MODE switch and a small box appears between the two arrows; the CLIP SCRUB CONTROL
- Click on this box and move the jog wheel on the mixer to assign the controller to this function. Once assigned, the mapping should be displayed in the MIDI MAPPINGS dialogue as: ...PATH = Clip / NAME = Play Position
- Exit MIDI MAP MODE.
Once assigned, it's not necessary to repeat the mapping for each clip that's loaded as this is a global control.
