Q:
... I am trying to get some information about the Xone:2D. There doesn't seem to be any online that helps me out.
A:
Have you looked here?
You can download the full User Guide for full details, including technical specs, via this link.
Q:
I'm slightly confused with what the Xone:2D actually is.
A:
The Xone:2D is a Professional Digital Music Interface featuring a combination 9, stereo channel (on RCA phono/line and XLR MIC connectors), 96kHz/24-bit USB2.0 soundcard and MIDI controller. For best results, a Xone:2D can be combined with any multi-channel analogue DJ mixer, but it is also possible to use the interface as a 'stand-alone' DAW application mixer.
Q:
There seems to be 2 different Xone:2Ds shown by suppliers; one has a crossfader and the other one doesn't.
Is the one without an x-fader just an older image that’s floating around? It would be a bit of a let-down if I received the one without the x-fader.
A:
Pictures of the Xone:2D without the cross-fader, XLR MIC and headphone connectors on the top panel are from the early concept units.
The pictures at the link given above are current and show what you will receive if you order a Xone:2D.
Q:
Is it possible to use one unit to control 2 virtual decks in Traktor?
A:
Absolutely! In fact, if you're competent with the application, clever with your MIDI maps, and dexterous with your hands - you can control 4 virtual decks in Traktor or 8+ tracks in Ableton Live.
Xone:2D will also work well with many other DAW software applications.
Q:
Can you switch controls between Traktor decks A & B. i.e.: use the jog wheel to nudge a track playing into time like you would on a turntable/CD deck?
A:
Yes - although exactly how the MIDI controls work with these parameter functions is down to how the software application's MIDI 'mapping' is configured; that is something that is open to bespoke customization depending on how you want to use the 2D interface with the software.
Q:
I have heard from friends who use two Xone:1D's, that you must use 2 separate USB slots for each unit.
Is that also the case if I had a xone1 and zone2? or can they run from the one USB slot with an adapter?
This is something that I’m looking into doing in the future.
A:
You only need one USB port for each Xone:D series unit.
If you're thinking of adding a Xone:1D (which is a common 2D setup addition), you need a second USB slot on your computer for this device.
For certain types of laptops, however, you may also need to use a powered USB hub (to act as the PSU for the additional Xone:1D).
The two Xone devices can then be connected via a single 5pin DIN MIDI cable for integration with your DAW software.
Documentation is available from our Technical Support Department that shows how this type of setup can be configured.
Q:
I really hope that this unit does what I think it does because I'm sick of lugging 20 kilos of vinyl around with me and this could be a great solution.
A:
Then the Xone:2D is an ideal solution. If you're playing in clubs with an analogue mixer & hardware already installed, you can pack a complete 2D setup (including laptop, all leads & a MIC) tidily into one DJ bag and a CD-holder sized flight case!
