Q. Can I use the Xone:2D's 4 vertical faders as individual channels (4 decks-fade in/out) for Traktor Pro?
A: Yes - but you must assign the deck volume functions in Traktor's MIDI mapping page to respond to the MIDI data signals sent by the controls on the Xone:2D.
Q. Are all outputs of the soundcard like a master out or are they individual?
A: Because the routing of the 2D soundcard outputs is not fixed, you can assign any soundcard outputs to your DAW's master output.
If you're familiar with how an analogue patch-bay works, try thinking of the Xone:2D soundcard as a patch-bay for routing your signals in to, or out from, Traktor.
Q. Do I need an external mixer or can I just work on the Xone:2D for my performance?
A: Both options are possible:
With an external mixer you can assign each of Traktor's four decks to pairs of outputs on the 2D soundcard; I.e:
DeckA = 2D OUTPUT SC1-2
DeckB = 2D OUTPUT SC3-4
DeckC = 2D OUTPUT SC5-6
DeckD = 2D OUTPUT SC7-8
Set Mixer Mode to 'External'.
It is possible to route Traktor's decks to any of the 2D outputs, but assigning decks to soundcard outputs this way simply represents the most logical option.
Set up in this way you have, up to, four stereo outputs available from the Xone:2D. These can be connected directly to the line inputs on an analogue mixer in the same way that you would connect four hardware devices (CDJs) to a mixer.
This option gives you control of EQ, volume, X-Fader parameters for each of Traktor's decks via the analogue DJ mixer - allowing you to use the 2D's MIDI controls for FX, transport, control parameter type functions.
It's also possible to use the Xone:2D as a stand-alone unit: Set Mixer Mode in Traktor to 'Internal'.
This only gives one 'master' output from Traktor, into which audio from all four Decks is summed (the Xone:2D soundcard output you assign to this 'master' output is optional).
The Xone:2D Soundcard output selected for Traktor's 'master output' connects to your FOH (or Hi-Fi) Amp.
The remaining soundcard outputs can be used for monitoring/recording/zone sends etc as required.
The only real drawback with the 'stand-alone' option, is that balanced outputs connectors are not available on the Xone:2D.
