M-DL-SMADI (superMADI) is one of several audio networking options that can be fitted to an Allen & Heath dLive or Avantis I/O Port. It provides a 128x128ch 48/96kHz interface to the AES MADI standard (AES10) over coaxial BNC and optional fibre optics.
Fitting the card
- Switch the system off.
- Remove the 4 screws securing the I/O Port blank panel to the dLive MixRack / Surface or Avantis mixer.
- Slide the card into the slot and press it firmly into the mating connector.
- Secure the card by tightening the 4 captive thumb screws.
Clock, settings and routing
Use the dLive or Avantis I/O screen to patch signals from or to the I/O Ports.
Use the dLive or Avantis Audio Sync screen to select the clock source. Set this to Internal on the clock-leader system, or to the relevant I/O Port on a clock-follower system.
Use the I/O Port screen to access routing, redundancy and sample rate options for the superMADI card. You can switch redundancy on/off and sample rate per Link pair. Two 96kHz modes are provided (SMux and HiSpeed) to ensure compatibility with third party MADI equipment.
The 128 I/O Port inputs and outputs can be mapped to the MADI BNC or SFP ports in blocks of 32 channels, allowing flexible routing. For example, over MADI BNC you can have 128 channels at 96kHz (no redundancy), 128 channels at 48kHz with redundancy, 64 channels at 96kHz with redundancy, or any combination in between.
ⓘ M-DL-SMADI requires dLive firmware V1.51 or higher.
Front panel
- Status LEDs
Flash yellow for Link activity. Light up red for stream errors. - Link 1-4 (BNC)
BNC connectors for 75 ohm coaxial cables, with switchable redundancy and 48/96kHz sample rate per pair. Cable length up to 150m to Allen & Heath equipment. Link 5-8 (SFP)
Four SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) slots are provided for Link 5-8. These can be populated with one or more SFP transceiver modules to provide a MADI interface over fibre optics.ⓘ To avoid damage to the BNC sockets, plug and unplug any cable with care and make sure the cables are terminated with standard BNC connectors (IEC 60169-8).
SFP modules
SFP is a standard in the IT industry and this means modules can be sourced from local suppliers and according to the specific requirement or application, e.g. multimode fibre for distances up to 2km and single-mode fibre over 2km.
ⓘ SFP modules must support the MADI data rate of 125 Mbit/s.
Allen & Heath recommends Broadcom HFBR-57E0PZ multimode modules. These have been tested to ensure compatibility and guaranteed performance when used with M-DL-SMADI. They provide standard LC connectors with an external rubber plug and extraction lever.
