Q:
I get no sound from my turntables when connected to Phono inputs on the XONE DX mixer.
The Phono switch is on and I have tried with and without Itch launched, but no sound comes out. Is that normal?
A:
XONE:DX is a digital interface, with an integrated soundcard and MIDI control, but it is not an analogue mixer. As such you MUST run the DX together with a digital audio software (DAW) application.
A full, four-deck version of Serato Itch is included with the XONE:DX for complete ‘plug & play’ compatibility with digital audio (stored on your computer hard drive), external turntables (for analogue vinyl) and CD players.
If you have a host application running, but do not hear the external audio signal; check that THRU mode has been enabled for the channel the turntables are connected to.
To do this:
- Connect your external device to the desired RCA channel (i.e. deck, or soundcard) inputs
- Run the host software application:
- In Serato Itch, 'THRU' mode must be enabled on the channel you have the external device connected to.
- To switch between internal and external playback; hold down one of the SHIFT buttons on the DX top panel,
then press the CUE button for the required channel.
(the corresponding deck layer in Itch will be 'greyed out' while the DECK is in THRU mode)
Refer to p17 of the XONE:DX User Guide for details.
For Traktor Pro, Allen&Heath .tsi maps are available with AUDIO THRU / INTERNAL PLAYBACK switching implemented within the MIDI control assignments; Maps are is available for download via the 'Documents' link on the XONE:DX product page: www.allen-heath.com/xone-dx
For other DJ software applications, the signal from any external audio device (CDJ, turntable, etc.) needs to be routed from the DX soundcard inputs to the DX soundcard outputs via the DAW host.
With the XONE:DX enabled as the application's hardware Audio Device the ASIO soundcard input and output channels will be displayed in the application’s I/O preferences.
Consult the application’s user guide for details on how to configure digital audio inputs and outputs.
