Q:
Is there any way to use the jog wheels to pitch the music up or down when I turn them, so other DJ's joining in with my set who are used to this function on other controllers?
A:
The Traktor Pro maps for XONE:4D use the rotary encoder above the jog wheels (encoders CC36 and CC44) for pitch shifting (or 'KEY' in Traktor) when a corresponding DECK SHIFT modifier is enabled.
Allen & Heath's 4D .tsi mapping is configured as follows:
- Press and hold control C#1 and turn encoder CC36 to pitch shift tracks playing in DECK A
- Press and hold control G1 and turn encoder CC36 to pitch shift tracks playing in DECK C
- Press and hold control A3 and turn encoder CC44 to pitch shift tracks playing in DECK B
- Press and hold control D#2 and turn encoder CC44 to pitch shift tracks playing in DECK D
If you want to use the XONE:4D jog wheels, in place of the encoders, you can modify the assignments in the .tsi file, or simply ADD this function for custom Traktor maps.
To modify the assignments in the Allen&Heath .tsi file, go to:
TRAKTOR > PREFERENCES > CONTROLLER MANAGER > DEVICE SETUP
- select Generic MIDI to view the XONE:4D MIDI controller assignments.
Scroll through the ASSIGNMENT TABLE and highlight the KEY control, then click LEARN under DEVICE MAPPING and move the jog wheel you want to use for this function
To add the function to a Traktor Pro map, go to:
TRAKTOR > PREFERENCES > CONTROLLER MANAGER > DEVICE SETUP
- Select Generic MIDI to view the XONE:4D MIDI controller assignments.
- Click ADD IN... and select MIXER > KEY in the ASSIGNMENT TABLE view to add the pitch control:
- Click LEARN, under DEVICE MAPPING, and then move the jog wheel you want to use to assign the function to a jog wheel.
To ensure the software parameter responds correctly to the MIDI data sent from hardware control, it’s important to check you have the right MAPPING DETAILS selected for a rotary encoder:
TYPE OF CONTROLLER = ENCODER
INTERACTION MODE = RELATIVE
ENC. MODE = 7Fh/01h
If you only want to enable the jogs for this function at specific times (i.e. for use by one DJ using the mixer, but not another), you can also assign a MODIFIER control for ‘pitch function via jog’, using the same method implemented for the CC36/CC44 encoders in our Traktor Pro maps.
